Two Weekly Contact Lenses

Typically designed for fortnightly wear, weekly contact lenses provide 14 consecutive days of clear and comfortable vision. All that's needed to make sure you get the most from your lenses is a simple cleaning and storing routine.

Over the course of the day, it's easy for debris or dirt to build up on the lens surface, which can lead to blurry vision and slight discomfort. Regularly cleaning your lenses with a multipurpose solution and storing them in a contact lens case keeps them working their best for the entire two weeks.

Remember not to wear your weekly contact lenses for more than a fortnight after you've removed them from the packaging, even if you do keep them in solution. They're only designed to last for 14 consecutive days so using them for any longer could make your eyes uncomfortable and susceptible to harmful bacteria.

Myopia: Short-sightedness makes it hard to focus on distant objects, you can use 2-weekly lenses to see clearly.

Hyperopia: Long-sightedness can make focusing on nearby objects difficult, but weekly lenses can correct this.

Astigmatism: Astigmatism causes your eye to have an elongated shape and causes blurry vision and discomfort. Toric contact lenses are specifically designed to fit this shape and are available with a two-weekly wearing pattern.

Presbyopia: With age, near sight often begins to deteriorate, making things like reading more difficult. Multifocal weekly lenses correct this using multiple powers in one lens.

The main reason to choose weekly contact lenses is because they offer a good compromise between monthly and daily lenses. One of the best things about dailies is that using fresh lenses daily is the most hygienic and comfortable way to wear contact lenses, but they are generally more expensive. Monthlies offer great value for money, with one pair of lenses lasting up to 30 days, but these lenses require cleaning, and there's a long wait until you can replace them.

Two Weekly lenses offer good value for money and you replace them more often than monthlies. You'll need to clean them to make sure they remain clean and comfortable, but bi weeklies are less likely to wear out for the two weeks that you wear them.

Weekly contacts are best suited for those who are going to wear them regularly. If you only wear contact lenses for sport or the occasional night out, they work out more expensive than dailies so you should probably stick to those.

Otherwise, if you're going to be wearing your lenses nearly every day then weekly lenses are worth considering. Some weekly contacts can also be used as extended-wear lenses. This means you can wear two-weekly contact lenses continuously for 14 days and can even wear them while you sleep. You should only try this kind of wearing pattern if your optician has recommended it.

If you're used to wearing contact lenses from Boots' own or Specsavers' easyvision range then you can still find the same type of lenses online but as branded equivalents. Check out our two tables which will show you which lenses to pick.

Weekly contact lenses for short sight and long sight

When looking for a weekly lens to correct either short or long sight, you should look out for brands which keep your eyes hydrated throughout wear and offer high levels of breathability. Lenses that retain moisture and allow oxygen to flow through to your eyes help prevent them from becoming dry or irritated and keep your eyes feeling comfortable.

Weekly contact lenses for astigmatism

Toric contact lenses for astigmatism correct distorted vision by being a different shape to regular spherical lenses. They fit your eye securely so that they always feel comfortable and provide crisp and clear vision while you wear them.

Weekly contact lenses for presbyopia

As presbyopia means you can have perfect distance vision but poor quality near sight, multifocal lenses can correct this by containing multiple powers in one lens. Weekly multifocal lenses are designed to make the transition between different ranges completely seamless and comfortable, making them a far more convenient alternative to reading glasses.
